On the weekend of April 27-29, 2004 we began the Archeological work around the Howell house. The material unearthed during this first dig revealed the usual items you would expect to find around a home. One item we found to be particularly interesting, a Union button.

Picture of Union Button found in the front yard of the Howell House.

Just how this button came to find itself in the front yard of the Howell house is something of a mystery although it's not entirely out of the question for someone to find the button around the location of Fort Allen and brought it back to the house. Fort Allen is simply too far away for soldiers themselves to wander to the house without a Sergeant finding out and being very displeased.
